Sinais vindos das fronteiras: pesquisadores lutam com a complexidade da percepção da dor periférica
Pesquisadores do mundo inteiro lutam para desvendar os complexos mecanismos de percepção da dor periférica. Apesar de passado mais de um século do descobrimento das terminações especializadas na recepção de estímulos dolorosos (os nociceptores), somente na última década foram identificados canais iônicos específicos para responder aos estímulos nociceptivos e também canais responsáveis pela regulação ou sensibilização dos nociceptores. Este conhecimento trouxe significante aumento no interesse da melhor compreensão dos mecanismos periféricos da dor, o que ajudaria no desenvolvimento de novos métodos de tratamento e controle da dor com menos efeitos colaterais.
